On the expensive side for a supermarket wine however there is a certain saying that you get what you pay for. This Chateauneuf du pape red wine is reasonably light in colour but its smell is divine. A earthy and I can’t believe I’m saying this but woody smell rich in berrys and a fantastic underlying smell of liquorice which really does set the juices in your mouth ready to taste it. On taste there is a very smooth and elegant taste which initially you cannot put your finger on but the creamy aftertaste does lend towards its fruity body and a hint of vanilla and spice underpinned by the liquorice aftertaste.
- Region: Côtes du Rhone
- Grape: Mixture of nine verieties but the main part is Grenache and Syrah
- Year: 2009
In conclusion I really did not expect this wine to be as fullfilling as it was. It was a real treat to have something which is most definately to be savoured rather than rushed. If you can get passed the pretty hefty price tag of £14 this is a definate must to acompany dishes like vennison or beef.
